   Swan Newsletter Autumn 2018

Swan are very keen to recruit drivers at the moment...

Particularly in areas such as, Bath, Keynsham and rural parts of B&NES. Do you know anyone who likes driving and would enjoy helping their local community by transporting people to appointments, events or activities?

We would also be very glad to hear of any thoughts or ideas you have which may help us to recruit more drivers.

Being a Swan Driver is a very rewarding role and we get lots of feedback from our passengers about how much they appreciate our drivers – check out our page of Feedback Comments. It is an easy process to apply, involving references and a DBS check, then a slip is sent off to your car insurer for their records– all of this arranged by us. Finally an informal meeting with our Co-ordinator Sarah with a cup of tea or coffee! If you would like to see how we operate, you could accompany one of our drivers on their journey with a passenger before you start driving with us.

You are in control of every journey you would like to do. Lots of our drivers prefer one or two journeys a week or even a month which fits in perfectly with their busy lifestyles, and some of our drivers actively enjoy driving several times a week. The choice is yours. We would just call you or email you about which journeys are available on different days - then it’s over to you to decide if you’d like to take one or not! If you are interested in driving for Swan just call us on: 01761 439548 or email: to speak to Ann or Sarah.

Do you shop online and would like Swan to get the benefit of a small donation?

Using Ebay checkout could support our charity’s work:

If you use Ebay to buy goods online, you may have noticed during the checkout process that a charity appears at the bottom of the screen that you can choose to make a donation to if you prefer. Swan has now registered with both Paypal and Ebay, so if you wanted to choose Swan as your Favourite Charity on Ebay, we would appear during the checkout process whenever you buy something on Ebay. This gives you the option if you wanted, to occasionally donate a small sum like £1 or £2 towards our transport scheme.

To make us your Favourite Charity, Go to and login as normal, then click on My Ebay. You will appear on the ‘Activity’ tab in My Ebay - click over to the Account tab. In the left hand menu near the bottom click on Donation account, then above where it says ‘Pending Donations’ there is a little tab called ‘Dashboard’, click next to it onto Favourites and search for Swan Advice Network, which is our official charity name. Finally you click on Add to My Favourites located below this. It should then show a heart symbol with 'My Favourite Charity' next to it and you are all set!

Swan Transport Christmas Meal

23 Volunteers and Staff, from Swan Transport - including 19 of our Drivers, attended our annual Christmas meal on Wednesday 6th December. The meal took place at the Centurion Hotel in Westfield again and the conservatory we were in had wonderful views out over the golf course! The staff were all very helpful and friendly and everybody really enjoyed their meal – a big thanks to our volunteers for all their hard work this year!

Swan Transport held a successful AGM with

On Wednesday 15th November we were joined by our guest speaker James Carlin from Localgiving; an organisation Swan has joined that helps local charities with fundraising ideas and opportunities. Lots of useful information was shared and questions asked about how our scheme works and about Localgiving.

Localgiving allow us to receive online donations which help to support the valuable work Swan Transport does in the Bath and North East Somerset area. Our Access 2 Health scheme, for which we receive no regular funding, provides essential health journeys to hospital and doctors’ appointments, and our Community Transport scheme helps people to get out and about to things like clubs, visiting family and friends, hairdressers and opticians appointments. We are also commissioned to help with Social Services transport for passengers. Our volunteer drivers enjoy helping those in their local community and give their time freely, using their own cars to provide transport and we make sure all their mileage costs are fully covered. Journey donations only cover about 50% of the full costs of the service so we always welcome other contributions.

If you would like to donate in support of our valuable work in the local community, just click on the Donate button on the top of this page, which will take you to our page on Localgiving.

Our grateful thanks go out to all those individuals and organisations who have made donations to us over the years.

£5 - pays for a drivers mileage expenses for a single local trip

£10 - pays for the mileage expenses of 20 mile community transport journey

£20 - pays for a return hospital trip for a passenger from an isolated rural area

You can donate to Swan Transport using Localgiving - just click on the button!

Donations help to support our Access to Health scheme which provides journeys for people needing to travel to the doctors and hospitals. These journeys are covered entirely by donations as we receive no regular funding.
