Swan Newsletter Summer 2017

Radstock based charity Swan Transport, which provides volunteer transport for older frail and disabled people on low income, is calling on local people to help it gain extra funding through Localgiving’s Grow Your Tenner campaign launching on Tuesday 17th October running to Thursday 19th October. Swan will use the funds raised through the campaign to support our Access 2 Health project, which provides vital transport to people needing to get to hospital and doctors' appointments, for which we receive no regular funding.

The campaign will match one-time donations pound-for-pound up to £10. Monthly donations will be matched by up to £10 for 6 months (after an initial 6 donations).
The campaign launches at 10am on the 17th October and will run until the match funding runs out (or Thursday 16th November - whichever comes first).
Local supporters can help by making a donation during the campaign. Donors can support Swan Transport in two ways:

● Set up a monthly donation and after your first six donations, the following six donations will be matched up to £10 - providing us with over £200 in funding.

● Make a one-time donation and it will be matched up to £10. For a one-time £10 donation with Gift Aid, Swan Transport receives £21.67!

If you would like to donate either click on the 'Donate' button, or alternatively go to: https://localgiving.org/charity/swan-advice-network/.

“2017 has been a busy year for us so far, with our hard working team of drivers winning the Volunteer Team of the Year Award in February, and Grow Your Tenner provides a brilliant opportunity for us to bring in funds and engage with our community. All donations make a huge difference and, with the added bonus of doubled donations, we hope the people of Bath and North East Somerset will get involved. Even an additional £100 of funding would enable us to provide more of the vital health journeys that are so essential for our clients.”

Chris Dormer, Head of Business Development at Localgiving, said:

“Local charities and community groups offer essential services and support the most vulnerable people in society. Our annual Grow Your Tenner campaign provides a great opportunity for local people to connect with groups like Swan Transport and offer their support. The campaign also encourages local charities and community groups to engage with online fundraising, a vital funding channel for groups looking to take control of their futures.”

Carol's Community Fashion Show for Swan Transport

Carol Curtis, a volunteer driver with Swan Transport based in Radstock organised a charity fashion show hosted by M&Co in Midsomer Norton to raise funds for Swan.

The event too place in the store on Thursday 21st September and it raised just over £450. The event would not have been possible without the 22 volunteers from the local area who modelled on the night, showcasing M&Co's clothing range to the delight of the audience. The children stole the show and were especially endearing, also helping to call out the raffle numbers - and one of the youngest, Leo concluded the event of his own volition by thanking everyone for coming!

Suzie the compere and all the store staff made everyone feel very welcome and even offered tea for those gasping for something other than wine and cold soft drinks which were much appreciated.

The raffle was a fantastic added extra to the event and gifts were donated from many Radstock shops and individuals. Swan's thanks go to; Bike It, JoJo's the hairdressers, The Loft, Hair Razor hairdressers, McColls, Lovat Short, Susan Hill School of Dance, Jean's hairdressers, Rumours Hairdressers as well as a number of individuals.

Sarah Oughton, Swan's Volunteer Transport Co-ordinator said "We would like to thank Carol and all those who gave their time to make the event a great success".

Swan Transport Awarded Funds by Big Local Dragons' Den

Sarah Oughton putting forward Swan Transport's pitch

Swan Transport recently attended the Big Local Radstock & Westfield Dragon's Den on Friday 21st April, where there were awards of £500 available to several deserving community organisations in the local area.

Our Swan Co-Ordinator Sarah Oughton stood up to put forward Swan's pitch to the friendly Dragons, who also asked her questions about our organisation and what it does. All the local residents who attended the evening were then able to vote for up to five groups to receive an Award and Swan were one of the winners!

Sarah was ably aided by lots of toy cars representing our hard-working drivers, these went down a treat with many of the youngsters who attended at the evening. Well done Sarah!

Our grateful thanks to Sarah Westell's daughter for the photograph taken on the night.
